Happy Movember everyone! And no, that’s not a typo. Movember — a literary marriage of the word moustache and the month November — was coined in 1999 by a group of young men in Adelaide, South Australia. In order to raise awareness for male cancers and the charities associated with them, these men decided to grow moustaches throughout the month of November, which happens to be Prostate Cancer Awareness Month.
The Movember Foundation is the charitable organization that runs the annual month-long event — the goal of which is to “change the face of men’s health.” Referring to one another as “Mo Bros,” members encourage their male counterparts to adopt healthier lifestyles, to be aware of family cancer histories and to undergo regular check-ups — all with the goal of providing early cancer detection and successful treatment.
Since 2004, the Movember Foundation has raised $174 million worldwide! Their official website http://www.movember.com — so please contact them for more information and join me when I say, “Bravo Gentlemen! Well done!”
