Yes! It’s October again — and Breast Cancer Awareness Month!
As some of you may already know, my husband is Mark Fleischer — an attorney who also happens to be the Chairman and CEO of Fleischer Studios. Now, Fleischer Studios began with Mark’s grandfather, pioneer animator Max Fleischer, the man who helped develop modern day animation and created several cartoon characters including the fabulous Betty Boop!
In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, another family member ( and great-granddaughter of Max Fleischer’s) Karin Kneitel — designed a wonderful, one-of-a-kind Betty Boop bra for an event known as “Cups for a Cure.” This contest, sponsored by Karin’s employer PSEG, was created to raise cancer awareness and benefit local breast cancer organizations. Each bra design entered into the contest was voted on by other company employees — and each vote raised a dollar for the cancer charity of one’s choice.
So remember, this is a GREAT month to contribute to the cancer charity of YOUR choice! And, there are so many from which you can choose including;
Breast Cancer Research Foundation
Susan G. Komen for the Cure Organization
The National Breast Cancer Foundation
AND, this is just the tip of the iceberg. There are many other organizations that are worthy of your support. In fact, if you are unsure of what to do or where to turn, visit GUIDESTAR or CHARITY NAVIGATOR, both of which are independent non-profit organizations that evaluate the trustworthiness of different charities. In this way, you can find the charity that makes the most sense for you and be assured that your donation is being used properly!
Lots to discuss this month! So until next time, BE WELL and BE AWARE!!
