Happy February everyone! And specifically, happy February 4th – for today is World Cancer Day! A day when people around the world all join together with a common message – a message of unity – stating that all matters concerning cancer must become a global health priority for all.
Organized by the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC), this is the fourth year World Cancer Day has been recognized. And, this year the UICC will focus on dispelling myths about cancer and stressing the importance of cancer prevention through tobacco avoidance, healthy diet, adequate exercise and proper screening procedures.
Events around the world will mark this four year milestone, including a tribute In New York City where the Empire State Building will be lit in blue and orange lights tonight – the symbolic colors of the UICC. And, here’s what YOU can do to help! You can show your support for World Cancer Day by turning your Facebook and Twitter profile pictures purple. For each person who does this, Chevrolet will contribute $1 to the American Cancer Society, up to $1 million total! Now, that’s making a difference! And Happy World Cancer Day to all!
