Happy July everyone! As we enter mid-summer and all the pleasures it brings, remember also that July is Bladder Cancer Awareness Month. So, let’s take a minute to review a few important facts of which we should all be aware. And, for those of you who have taken The Course, please follow along on page 249, Volume 1 of The Single Source Cancer Course.
First, it appears that this particular cancer strikes men more than women, especially men over the age of fifty. Remember, however, that all individuals who are heavy smokers or who have a history of chronic urinary tract infections have a greater risk for developing bladder cancer. Some of the symptoms of this disease include pain when urinating, pain in the abdomen or back, frequent urination and small particles of blood in the urine. A simple urinalysis easily performed during the course of one’s annual physical exam can detect blood in the urine, a condition which also is known as hematuria.
Now, if blood is present in one’s urine another test known as acytoscopy may be conducted. This test will help determine the cause of the bleeding and help identify potential problems of the bladder. Again, this test can be performed in the privacy of a doctor’s office. This procedure, however, requires a narrow tube to be inserted through the urethra or ureter so a local anesthetic will be used to insure the patient’s comfort.
These are simple tests that save lives. AND, we know that early detection is our best ally in the fight against cancer! So, NEVER BE AFRAID – BE INFORMED! And, have a terrific, fun, safe and healthy holiday week!
