Lifestyle Choices and Aggressiveness of Cancer

July 22, 2013 by Susan Wilking Horan Leave a Comment

There have been a lot of recent reports examining the options available to men who are diagnosed with prostate cancer. These options, however, are not new. The basic information regarding these options remains the same – so let’s review this important information.

And for those of you who have read The Course, please follow along by reading Chapter 19 in Volume 1 of The Single Source Cancer Course, and pages 16 – 17 in Volume 2.

To start, remember that most men are at risk for developing this disease, especially as they age. Aside from the level of risk, however, the relevant issue to discuss is the level of aggressiveness the disease presents for an individual. For example, men with a history of prostate cancer in their family may have an inherited risk for developing the disease. And, cancers that appear to be influenced by heredity may develop earlier in one’s life and may be more aggressive in nature. In addition, research suggests that aggressive tumor risk may be higher for men who do not adhere to a healthy lifestyle.

This is so interesting because we know that lifestyle choices can affect our risk for developing cancer. But, now lifestyle choices may affect the strength of a tumor as well. For example, a recent study found that men who maintained a healthy weight, avoided sugary drinks and processed foods, exercised for a minimum of thirty minutes a day and consumed more produce and less red meat were less likely to develop prostate cancer of an aggressive nature. In turn, this means that any treatment for the cancer is also less likely to be of an aggressive nature.

Prostate cancer does not always mean surgery! There are many other available treatments, including watchful waiting. More and more individuals with cancer are learning to live with it, to take control of it and to moderate its aggressiveness through proper diet and healthy lifestyle choices.  And, always remember, KNOWLEDGE IS POWER!
