We’ve all heard the stories of and reports on the benefits of Omega-3 fatty acids. And, here’s another one! A large review of twenty-six international studies found that women who consumed more Omega-3 fatty acids by eating fish lowered their risk of developing breast cancer by as much as fourteen percent!
Now, we know from The Single Source Cancer Course that many factors must be considered when evaluating research data. First, there are different sources of Omega-3, which is a type of polyunsaturated fat. In this particular review, women who ate fish with high concentrations of Omega-3 such as salmon appeared to lower their risk for breast cancer. The type of Omega-3 found in plants, however, did not appear to lower the risk. In addition, the review suggested that it’s not just the amount of Omega-3 that one consumes – it’s the amount of Omega-3 in relation to other fatty acids in one’s diet that appears to lower one’s risk for breast cancer. Furthermore, it’s not clear if Omega-3 from supplements has the same cancer-risk reduction potential as the Omega-3 found in fish.
Finally, we must consider cultural differences. In Asian populations, the consumption of more fish appeared to be linked to the lower risk for breast cancer. In Western populations, the lower risk was not as evident – although this may be because Western p opulations simply tend to eat less fish overall. In summary, please review Chapter 4 in Volume 1 of The Single Source Cancer Course. And remember, we always need to evaluate scientific studies and research for ourselves.
We need to ask many questions. We need to exercise our own knowledge and common sense. In this way, we will EMPOWER OURSELVES! And, that’s what it’s all about!
