It’s time for another #FACTUAL FRIDAY everyone — and today’s facts are especially important as those of us in the Northern hemisphere move into glorious, sunny Summer!!
Australian researchers have discovered that a common form of Vitamin B3 — known as nicotinamide — can significantly reduce the recurrence of some forms of skin cancer. Now, this is really important because skin cancer — when we combine all three types known as melanoma, squamous and basel cell — is the most common cancer the world over.
Now of the three, squamous and basel cell carcinomas occur the most often. And, of course, once we experience one skin cancer, we are more likely to experience another.
But now, this simple vitamin taken twice a day appears to provide our skin cells with a boost of energy that increases the skin’s ability to repair itself. AND, it not only reduces the recurrence of squamous and basel cell cancers, it also decreases the development of actinic keratoses, which is a benign scaly skin growth.
We should know, however, the study only involved individuals who previously had been diagnosed with skin cancer — and the correct form of vitamin B must be used as opposed to niacin, which can have unintended side effects.
But overall, what great news! A pill — a simple vitamin — that can help prevent the most common cancer in the world!! Isn’t that what we’ve all been waiting for??
Thanks everyone and until next time,
